Jin Motion Inc. is a Montreal-based technology company that takes
pride in developing applications that help push the bounds of
human ability and expression. We are a team of experienced
programmers, developers and builders who love what we do, and
are passionate about every project we take on. Be it within the
realms of the performing arts, audio/video installations, virtual
reality, or web development, our ultimate goal is to pursue
innovative means to challenge and inspire.

Jin Motion's mission is driven by the enormous potential of
computing tools to help sharpen the tools we were born with: our
minds, our senses, and the muscles at our command. Our focus is
on developing physical sensory interfaces, immersive installations, and web-based applications that contribute to both educational and therapeutic advancement. We do IT consultancy work in a range of capacities, and in-house product development currently focused on therapeutic Virtual Reality. Our collaborators include medical researchers, museums, science centers, art centers, government groups, and entrepreneurs who share our mission.

Jin Motion's founders come with broad experience in both the
technology and media fields. Sylvain Cormier has spent over 10
years building network, virtual-reality, immersion, and ambiance
systems. Mark Evin is a programmer and 3D animator with a
background in multimedia script writing, television
postproduction,and multi-touch screen construction.

Our projects employ a range of approaches and branch off into
various fields, including immersive multi-sensory displays,
multimedia art, interactive installations, virtual reality, network-
based performances
, and interactive web.

Collaborated in the development, testing, and maintenance
of the following systems for the Societé des arts technologiques
in Montreal:

Satodome

Added dome rendering capabilities to "Audioscape", a
distributed 3D framework using OpenSceneGraph and Pure Data

Panoscope 360

Mandated by world renowned designer/artist Luc Courschesne
to adapt a deformation algorithm to a new anamorphic lens,
experiment with stereoscopy, and maintain F3 projector firmware

Cyclorama

Our CTO made the initial programmer's documentation and user manual for the Lighttwist implementation of the SAT's Cylorama. He gave artistic and technical support for artists producing content for the Fabric Numerique (LINK) residency. In addition, he also produced 3D and audio content for demos.

PixelTango

Supervision of software tests for a live VJ performance
application with the collaboration of the NRC, Emily Carr Institute
of Art and Design, and the Simon Fraser University. Part of the
project included a live VJ performance between Ontario and
Newfoundland.

Share Montreal

Our CTO is one of the founding members of the Montreal cell of
Share
. Share is an organization that offers support and
infrastructure for new media communities worldwide. Share Mtl
produced its events in many places including Place des Arts and ISEA.

Haptics Master - Robot Hockey

Contracted to Jin Motion by McGill University's School of Physical
and Occupational Therapy, this project's mandate was to
program the 3D graphic display for a Virtual Reality therapeutic
application based on a robot that both senses and guides human
arm movement. The goal is to study the effects of immersion
therapy for patients suffering from muscular dystrophy.

VR Glove - 3D Hand Model

An experiment in custom VR glove techniques to asses
responsiveness to fine motor manipulation

Dream Mirror

A visual display commissioned by the Montreal Science Centre,
which employs computer-vision techniques to detect visitors
in the physical space in front of the display, and integrate
them (in real-time) into a fantastical animated 3D universe
projected onto a large screen.

"The Golden Calf" - Jefferey Shaw

Installation of an interactive art piece for the Mildred Lane
Kemper Art Museum in St-Louis Missouri. The piece used an
interactive 3d viewer employing patriot sensors.

Motion Capture Fx

Programmed system that uses video processing to produce
visual and sound effects that react to human movement

PropulseArt

Test manager for the development of a video and multichannel
sound streaming application. This project comprised of
residencies in several fields including theatre performance,
VJing, and stop-motion animation.

NSlam

Testing of 8 channel uncompressed audio transmission software
with the accordion of Pauline Oliveros across commercial
broadband from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy NY and
SAT Montreal.

Biodome

Network technician for Montreal Biologist teleconference to students in Gaspesie Quebec on Telus/RISQ 100 GB Network
